Shetland Canoe Club is based in the Shetland Islands, and is therefore Britain’s most northerly canoe club. We are mainly a sea kayaking club, with most of our activities geared to touring, though some members have been known to try surfing, not to mention the odd visit to the mainland for a bit of river paddling. We are affiliated to the Scottish Canoe Association , all members pay an annual membership either as boat owner or non boat owner and this entitles them to use club equipment under club rules. We do not hire club equipment as we operate on a non-commercial basis.
Please note – Minimum age 13 for all outdoor training and trips (Under 16’s must be accompanied by a paddling adult)

You will usually find at least one of the committee is involved in the training sessions and will be happy to discuss things with you if you choose your moment!
During the summer we organise short trips on weekday evenings, and a longer trip on Saturday’s or Sunday’s depending on availability and weather. Through the winter we often have pool sessions at the Clickimin Pool in Lerwick. Every April the club offers a programme of training starting in the pool and moving onto the sea after Easter. This is the best time for beginners to join. Experienced paddlers are welcome at any time.
There are occasional weekend meets in places such as Yell and Unst when opportunities arise, and the Shetland Sea Kayak Symposium and connected paddle meet weekend happens every second year.
