Beginners Sessions 2015

Starts Monday 20th April, 27th April, 4th May, 11th May

If you’ve never kayaked and thought you’d like to give it a go, this is a good way to learn some of the basics before you get out onto the sea.

Each week we’ll spend just under an hour looking at safety, equipment and general paddling do’s and don’ts before heading into the pool. At the end of the four weeks you’ll be ready to head out to Bridge End to put some of what we’ve been doing into practice before getting going with trips.

You need to be able to swim and be over 13, all children under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Meet 7:15pm at Bowlers bar for the dry bit. There will be time to get changed before we go into the pool. Please bring your completed enrollment form with you.

Pool sessions

Pool sessions begin again on Monday 16th March. 8:30pm at the Clickimin pool. We will have the use of the full pool pool, enabling us to bring in more full size sea kayaks. This is your chance to practice your skills before the outdoor season starts.
All welcome, if you know someone who maybe interested in trying kayaking then bring them along for a session.
Adult members £5, Concessions £3, Non members £7.50
The sessions will continue until 13th April.(5 weeks) After that the new intake of beginners will begin.

The extra space will let you practice all types of strokes in the pool. If required we can help you with rolling, rescues etc. Please let us know what you would like to work on. Coaches will be on hand to assist if required.
The rates will be the same as last year £5 per adult and £3 concession.

EGM Thursday 7th Feb

There will be an Extraordinary General Meeting of the Club at 7pm on 7 February at Islesburgh (just before the first pool session of the year).  This has been called to discuss, and hopefully agree, changes to the Club constitution.

The current constitution is very brief and doesn’t match up to pest practice identified by the SCA, particularly in respect of child protection.

The Committee is also proposing to move the time of the Annual General Meeting from March, as required by the current constitution, to January in order to give a newly-elected Committee more time after the AGM to organise the beginners’ training in April.

We’ll send out a draft constitution before the meeting. Please come to the meeting to tell us what you think and help shape the future running of the Club.

See you there

Jonathan Swale
Secretary – Shetland Canoe Club

Pool sessions

Just a reminder that this Thursday 29th Nov is the last indoor pool session before Xmas.

Come along and practice your strokes, learn how to roll, practice rescue scenario’s or just have some fun.

All welcome
