Claire and her friends at NHS Shetland are going on a sponsored paddle to raise funds for a new MRI scanner for Shetland.
The Shetland MRI Scanner Appeal hopes to raise 2 million so that a MRI Scanner can be located in Shetland which would bring quicker access to diagnostic tests, reduce inconvenience and the need to travel off island. An MRI scan is used to diagnose and monitor a wide variety of conditions and the number of patients who need them is steadily increasing.
Weather-permitting, the plan is to paddle between Bridge End and Scalloway on the morning of 6th April. If the weather is not suitable that day, an alternative will be arranged.

Thank you
We have a very limited number of kayaks available for tonight’s pool session so we’re going to be club members only.
If you have your own kayak you’re more than welcome to bring it along. Please note it should be reasonably clean
Due to breezy conditions it was decided that a trip for beginners wouldn’t be on the cards so it was a small group of club members that set out to Vementry on Saturday afternoon. The combination of swell at right angle to the wind made for stretches of interest for short periods, and the last hour or so was into wind which the group handled well. All on all, a good day on the water for this more experienced group. And a trip to Vementry is never complete without a trip to the guns.
As most people will know, Rachel had a close shave on Thursday while coming in towards Lerwick towing the club trailer. Thankfully everyone got out okay, and our thoughts are with Rachel and her family. We”d also like to thank the two guys who uncoupled the trailer from the car at Frakkafield.
Existing club members – there are Tuesday evening trips. Contact Rachel for details
Seven intrepid souls braved the weather, went for a paddle round the island of Vaila on Saturday and enjoyed a half day out on relatively benign (if cold) waters. “Taking a swim” wasn’t a good idea with the temperature in single digits so it was nice when the bit of swell as we rounded Green Head proved to be the most we’d encounter through the day. Blow holes, arches, cliffs, stunning views of Foula in the distance, Tysties and shags were all enjoyed, but no ceteceans today. Good day out, good company. Thank you to everyone that came along and thanks to Rachel for organizing.
That’s the form available for the beginners pool sessions available
