3 star open canoe training 20/21st August

We have a 3* open canoe assessor coming to Shetland on 20th and 21st August. There are spaces available for members of the Shetland Canoe Club to undertake their 3* open canoe assessment with him.
If you are interested in attempting your 3* open canoe assessment please e-mail Rosalind. Open canoe training will have to be undertaken before the assessment. Weather permitting this may take place with the canoe club.
If you are unsure if you are at 3* ability please ask a club coach the next time you are out paddling and they will be able to give you advice.
The 3* open canoe pre-requisites are:
At least 3 journeys in an open canoe of approx. 3 hours
And either hold a 2* BCU award or have undertaken a 3 hour paddle in another discipline (so a paddle trip in a kayak).
As said earlier, to register your interest please reply to this e-mail as soon as possible.
Please note this is an opportunity to obtain 3* open canoe, not 3* sea kayak.

If you are interested please contact Rosalind at rnicol45@yahoo.co.uk

Redd Up Saturday 26th April

Hi everybody, to get the kayak season started we thought we could start with participating in the redd Up on Saturday the 26th April, to clean the Atlantic side of Mavis Grind. We are meeting at 10 am at Mavis Grind. I thought we would Redd Up first and then those who want to can go on a trip near by either heading north to Nibon/ Hillswick or south to Roe Sound (I’m hoping for nice weather).

Hope to see you all there!
Cheers

Rachel
